Information on Verizon FiOS Service in Occoquan
In May of 2008 the Occoquan Town Council approved a nonexclusive franchise agreement with Verizon to bring the company's fiber optic (FiOS) television, internet, and telephone services to the town. On March 5, 2009, the town hosted a Town Hall meeting at which a Verizon representative provided an update on the status of the FiOS build out and answered questions from the public.
Status of Implementation Build Out:
At the Town Hall meeting on March 5, 2009, the Verizon representative indicated that the installation of fiber optic cable in town had begun. Where aerial cable already exists (e.g. in the historic district) Verizon will also use aerial cable, resulting in little or no disruption to regular activity. In those areas where aerial cable does not exist (e.g. West Locust Street), Verizon will install the cable underground. This will be done solely in the utility easement rights-of-way and every attempt will be made to restore affected areas to their pre-existing state once work is completed. All work will be conducted during weekdays, not on weekends. Although inclement weather in the region may delay work, (Verizon reallocates personnel from new installations to restore outages when inclement weather affects existing customers), Verizon anticipates that everyone in Occoquan who wishes it will have service available in three to four months. Condominium and apartment complexes are encouraged to have their association or management representatives contact Verizon to provide permission to access any central communication nodes that might be under the jurisdiction of property or association management.
